DISCIPLINARY POLICY

Omega Schools discipline policy is conceived of as development rather then punitive. Its function is to create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to academic and behavioral learning, order and safety. A complete discipline program must contain both developmental and corrective elements with the primary objective being always to teach, not punish. Orderly conduct of students is necessary in every school situation so that maximum learning may occur. Effective discipline is a necessity for quality learning. Any student formally dismissed from the Omega Schools is not permitted to return to the campus except to meet with the School Board to appeal their dismissal. If reinstatement is denied, any personal items left behind will be forwarded to them.

Students are expected to:

  1. Show respect and consideration for the rights of others

  2. Refrain from any behavior that interferes with the educational process

  3. Attend school daily, be prepared for class, complete homework and participate in class

  4. Use appropriate language and voice volume at all times

  5. Respect school property

  6. Keep food items in the cafeteria unless otherwise designated

  7. Remain on school grounds until dismissed or given permission to leave by an adult

  8. Refrain from violence and/or use of alcohol or drugs while at school, on the bus, and at school-sponsored activities. 

Failure to abide by school rules will result in a verbal warning, written referral, suspension, meeting with parent/guardian, or expulsion. 

Examples of Excused Absences:

1.Personal illness verified by parent/ guardian or physician.

2. Doctor or dentist appointment

3. Death in family verified by parent/guardian

4. Religious Holiday verified by parent/guardian

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE: Any other absences will be considered unexcused. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up missed work for credit.

Students will be considered absent without excuse if verification from parent/guardian is not received before

10:00 AM on the day of the absence.

TARDY: Tardiness is defined as not being in the classroom prepared to begin class when the bell signals at the beginning of the class period. Three (3) unexcused tardies equals one unexcused absence. Students maybe required to participate in campus community service, saturday school or night school
ATTENDANCE  POLICY

Arizona law states that any child between six and sixteen years of age must attend school. Therefore, it is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to ensure that requirements for attendance are met. Absence is defined as a student’s non-attendance during a scheduled class period. Illness exceeding 3 days must be verified with physician note.

 EXCUSED ABSENCE: A written note from parent/guardian must be presented to verify excused absence.  Students will be allowed to make up missed work for credit when the excuse is verified by a parent/guardian.  Saturday School may be designated for make up work. The student (grades 5-12) is responsible for making arrangements with the classroom teacher regarding timelines and assignments to be completed for credit.  This also applies to absences during which the student will be out of school for an extended period of time.  Students that accrue absences that interfere with academic performance may not be promoted to the next grade.

Examples of Excused Tardies:

  1. Coming from Doctor or Dentist with written note from parent/guardian

  2. Emergencies with written note from parent/guardian

All students must wear blue pants (straight leg, no oversize, no pockets on the legs), skirts (knee length), or shorts (no more than 4 inches above the knee). No skorts or Capri attire will be permitted. Leather or plastic (no metal) belts must be worn with pants. Shirt tails are to be tucked in at all times while on campus.  Only sweaters and sweatshirts the color of the top of the uniform will be permitted to be worn in the classroom (no jackets, coats, or vests). Polo shirts with Omega Schools insignia will be permitted and may be purchased in the office. All students must wear closed toe and heeled shoes for safety (no sandals or house shoes will be permitted).

• Elementary students must wear Navy Blue Polo Shirts (no pockets or insignia).

• Middle School students must wear Maroon Polo Shirts (no pockets or insignia).

• High School students must wear Dark Green Polo Shirts (no pockets or insignia).

Make up and hair color shall not be excessive. Wearing hats, sunglasses, caps, bandanas, hairnets, chains, spikes or any type of sharp objects will not be permitted. Jewelry, tattoos, belt buckles, or other personal items shall not display lewd, vulgar, obscene, offensive, or gang/cult language or symbols. Gang/cult related dress, grooming, language, and/or behavior on campus and at Schools events is contrary to the educational mission and purpose of the Schools and is therefore prohibited. Students who arrive without proper uniform attire will be sent home. After the second offense, disciplinary action will be taken.
